| Thirteen-year-old Sirius Black sat at his desk, playing with the pathetically normal length ends of his black hair. It was bloody awful, he'd been growing it out so long, and over Christmas holiday his mother had had the nerve to cut it. He would never admit to anyone that he'd cried, mind you, not even James. Hair wasn't something you cried over, as far as he'd noticed. He sighed and leaned back in his chair onto the desk behind him.
Honestly, what was with this class. "Defense Against the Dark Arts" made it sound all fun and exciting, but not in three years had he done anything in it but sleep at his desk and occasionally jot down pranks. Sirius yawned.

| Remus hastily scribbled a bullet point, trying not to miss a minute of the lecture. Really, it wasn't every day you got to learn about what you were, a werewolf. Sure, there were derogatory remarks every five minutes. Sure, the teacher was trying not to be biased for his sake. But really, what he was learning was fascinating. He didn't even notice anything else. | |

| Sirius turned squeakily in his chair to scan the room. Two desks over, he saw Remus. It was truly amazing how focused the boy looked, like he actually was taking notes. Who in Merlin's name even took NOTES? He shook his head, rolling his eyes. He wondered why the lesson was interesting to the boy, but was too lazy to have heard a word the teacher'd said all class. | |

| James yawned. Double DADA was possibly the most boring class of the day, aside from History of Magic. James twisted around, his back cracking loudly as he looked over at Remus. He was surprised to see how intently Remus was focused on today's lesson, taking notes religiously. James was too lazy to even pay attention, but he did well in class anyways. Noticing Sirius also watching Remus, James scribbled a note.
What's Rem so interested in, anyways? The lecture can't be THAT interesting, can it?
James tossed the paper onto Sirius' desk, and waited for a reply.

| Sirius uncrumpled the note and read it, quickly scratching back a reply. I dunno. Haven't heard a word of the lecture at all today. But you know him. He rolled his eyes just writing it. What a nerd they had among them. Mind you, not that having someone to do your homework for you was bad or anything. He skillfully recrumpled the paper ball into its former shape and tossed it back. | |
